Stephanie Ortynsky is an Associate Researcher with the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) and a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy at the University of Regina, where she also completed her PhD in Public Policy (University of Saskatchewan).

She previously was the Richard M. Bird Post‑Doctoral Fellow at the Institute of Municipal Finance and Governance (IMFG) at the University of Toronto, where she taught municipal finance in the Master of Urban Innovation program. At JSGS, she is teaching and has taught courses in social economy foundations, public sector financial management, statistics for public managers, COVID‑19 and public policy, and public policy analysis.

Her research focuses on municipal governance, public finance, wellbeing budgeting, and local policy capacity, informed by interdisciplinary work and applied projects in Saskatchewan, Switzerland, South Africa, and Tajikistan.

She also serves as an elected City Councillor in her hometown of Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Beyond her academic and municipal roles, she is committed to community wellbeing, currently teaching fitness and yin yoga with the City of Yorkton. She enjoys daily runs or hikes with her 10‑year‑old Weimaraner, Poet Pickles, maintains a steady meditation practice, and participates enthusiastically in Yorkton’s fun fitness community.
