Dr. Merelda Fiddler-Potter is a Cree and Métis scholar, journalist, and Associate Professor at the First Nations University of Canada. She teaches in Indigenous Journalism & Communication Arts and Indigenous Business & Public Administration.
With nearly 20 years in media, including a career with CBC as a reporter, producer, and documentary filmmaker, she brings strong real-world storytelling into her academic work.
Her research focuses on Indigenous storytelling, media, and public policy, with an emphasis on how narratives shape public understanding, reconciliation, and policy outcomes.
She holds a PhD in Public Policy from the Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy, along with a Master of Arts and a Bachelor of Journalism and Communications from the University of Regina. She also works as a consultant, advising organizations on Indigenous engagement, communications, and reconciliation.
